Why We Feast

This year we launched our 3rd annual Matching Challenge with Oregon Fruit Products to support our charity partners Partners For A Hunger-Free Oregon and Urban Gleaners, and it was a huge success! With your help we were able to raise $41,720 toward ending hunger in Oregon. Your generous donations go directly to our charity partners and help support programs like summer meal access, including the mobile markets and summer markets our charities provide and fill with delicious food. Thank you to all who donated!

While Feast Portland is a food and drink festival that celebrates everything that makes Portland and Oregon awesome, it’s also an organization with a strong charitable mission. Since inception, Feast has raised close to $400,000 to help end hunger in Oregon and across the country. In 2018, Feast Portland is proud to support two important causes: Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon and Urban Gleaners.

Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon works with communities across the state to end hunger before it begins. Partners documents the extent of hunger, coordinates and publicizes existing services, and advocates for programs and policies to eliminate hunger. Their goal is to provide family economic stability and food security so that all Oregonians have sufficient means and ready access to an adequate amount of nutritious, quality food. The programs they support include: Childhood Hunger Prevention via free school breakfast, lunch, summer and after school meals, as well as SNAP Outreach.

Urban Gleaners collects delicious, fresh food before it can go to waste and gets it to people who need it. They pick-up from a growing roster of donor restaurants, grocery stores, corporate campuses, event sites, colleges and universities, farms, and food wholesalers, and sort and package the donated food into family-sized portions. Then they distribute the food to over 40 sites in the Portland Metro area, at schools through their Food To Schools program, at their public Mobile Markets at parks and apartment complexes, and through a variety of hunger services organizations.

Our Feast Fab Collab products also benefit both of our charities – find out more about the products you can purchase to help end hunger here. And, for the first time ever, Feast is partnering with Bridge & Burn on a collaborative t-shirt, where a portion of proceeds will be donated to our charities. Grab one while you can in our store!

Keep an eye out on Feast’s social media and newsletter for updates on our charitable activities and how you can get involved.
